The Marine Corps traces its founding back to November 10th, 1775, when the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution for two Marine battalions. The recruitment was iconically done in Tun’s Tavern in Philadelphia
Then, with the Treaty of Paris (signed April 1783), the Marines and the Navy were deactivated, bringing the Revolutionary War to an agreed-upon end.
But the Marine Corps was re-established on July 11, 1798 with the Act for Establishing and Organizing a Marine Corps when President John Adams signed it into law.
