On January 9, 2025, Representative Gregory W. Steube (R-FL-17) introduced H.R. 244 – Veterans’ True Choice Act of 2025. This bill will amend title 10, United States Code, to provide eligibility for Tricare Select to veterans with service-connected disabilities.
In this current text, it doesn’t specify at what percentage the veteran’s disability needs to be to qualify for this benefit. It does specify that the veteran’s dependent does not qualify for Tricare if the veteran is eligible. The downside of this benefit is that the veteran will have to pay a copay while using Tricare Select for a network provider, but if the veteran was using a non-network provider, the veteran would have to pay the full cost up front and file a claim afterwards.
